Importance

The Mediterranean diet has been shown to be beneficial for several health factors.  Whether it has any association with fractures is not known.

Aim

To assess whether diet has any affect on fracture risk in postmenopausal women.

Results

Those who ate a Mediterranean diet more frequently were associated with a lower risk for hip fractures.

The authors conclude:

“… these results support that a healthy dietary pattern may play a role in maintaining bone health in postmenopausal women.”
